Today we started out our day by celebrating MLK Jr. Day by listening to and watching his famous "I Have a Dream Speech". Then while working on our states & capitals test, we tuned in live to CNN and got to watch President Obama be sworn into office for the Inauguration. Pretty cool as they realized they won't see it again until they are 8th graders. We are going to continue reading our biography about MLK Jr. tomorrow and taking events from his life and putting them into a timeline. My reading kids will be choosing their biography books to read for nightly independent reading tomorrow and they will be given a sheet of requirements for the project. I will be modeling it in here with a Helen Keller biography. More on that as it develops. Celebration Day will be on Wednesday. It is for earning their celebration points. We are watching the movie "Fly Me to the Moon" which is rated G. It is a great connection to our space unit that we are working on. Students can bring a pop & a treat. Friday is time to spend our fake money. We will be doing an auction to spend their money for this past quarter and then we will start next Monday again with $200. Today in Math we did symmetry. Have your child draw a polygon and draw in lines of symmetry in the planner for free money. Permission slips from Mrs. Buss came home today about the HIV video. Please read and sign and return to school by Thursday for free money. Thank you. Have a great night.
