Happy Tuesday!
Today was another busy day in Room 6. We started out our day with another one of our fun morning activities before watch Rusty and go to morning meeting. Ask your child which one of our activities is their favorite and have them do it for you and then write the name of it in the planner. We started out our morning meeting with Rusty talking about why we practice crisis drills and the fact that we need to take them seriously so we know what to do if a real emergency situation arises.
Then in Social Studies, we practiced our Midwest states & capitals. They sure seem to be studying at home as they are doing quite well. I hope they are studying the location too. Then as a follow up to our section on the Dodge City, Kansas cattle drive there was a section to go with the song "Home on the Range". Students got in groups of 4 and wrote a new verse to the song. The upcoming performances for these will be on Thursday. Can't wait.
Then in Reading, we continued with our Space unit. Chapter 2 was about the beliefs & stories of long ago explaining why we have constellations, high & low tides, and why earth is covered with water. So we had some explaining to do. Then one of the group's reading sections talks about Copernicus and the geocentric vs. heliocentric theories. Let's just say, it could get a little deep, but we aren't spending a lot of time discussing beliefs about this, but just doing the necessary skills and moving on.
In Math, we practiced our long division by getting in groups of 4 and each person had to be a different member of the Royal Family and they did problems on the white board. Good way to practice and everyone was successful.
We also started geometry and started with solid figures and everyone has that for homework tonight.
In Science, we started our Snowmen people. We will finish them tomorrow and then read the book and write our own stories.
SNOW GLOBES!!! Yes, we are going to be making snow globes here at school so your child will need a jar with a lid by next Tuesday. Make sure the jar is at least as big as a baby food jar, but no larger than a pint sized jar. Thank you.
Venture Theater: Thanks to our wonderful PTA, Venture Theater is once again coming to Bitterroot. Students that are interested in it took a letter and a form home today for you to read, fill out, and sign. There is a change on the starting date though as it says January 14th and there is no school for students on that day. I am assuming it will start the next day on the 15th. I think Mrs. Zimmerman called there today so they will probably be giving us new notes to send home and I will get you the new date as soon as I know.
Have a great night.
