Today in Social Studies, we finished our study on the American Flag and how it evolved and changed for a certain time period. Ask your child, how many stripes it had on it at one time and write the number in the planner for free money. In Science, we started our Hurricane Unit and watched 2 YouTube Videos on how destructive they can be and how they change people's lives. We will be learning lots about them and following them as they develop in the Atlantic & Gulf Coasts. Remember the reading of Large Numbers Math homework that went home last week is due tomorrow. Many of you returned it already and that is great. Tomorrow we will start with comparing numbers. Today in Reading, we started our unit on Heritage and what it is and how each person's is different. I want you to start thinking about it and what your child could share that will tell us about your heritage. It can be a game that your child can teach us, a recipe,(even can make the food and send in to share), an art craft, or music (song or instrument). Anything that will tell us a part of your heritage. I will be sending home a note more about this at the end of the week and we won't share these things until Friday, September 14th. Today students started in Read 180 or System 44 with Mrs. Betts so your child will not be in the classroom for Reading, Language, and Spelling. This means that their planners will not look the same as mine for those subject areas. In Character Education/morning meeting today we made a list of what it takes to be a responsible person. Have your child tell you one of these and write responsible in the planner. Positive Group Behavior Tallies: Today, we added a new thing to our Teamwork efforts. Students work together as a team to earn a tally point for the group. This includes behavior, getting work done, and helping each other out. Then when they get 6 tallies they can earn money for their whole group. What a great deal!! For individual behaviors this week, students can earn $20/day if they do not get a ticket taken away. So you can see that means lots of $ can be earned by using good character and being a positive team member. Our first field trip is on Tuesday, October 16th and students will need $500 fake money to go. There will be 2 others that month so as you can see a total of $1500 will be needed.
